While browsing the internet I came across this very interesting puzzle involving tactics. What needs to be done looks simple:
White to move and mate in 4.
However the solution does not look simple at all. White seems to have very few pieces and Black more than enough defenders. Can you still solve it? If anyone could provide the name of players, it would be nice. The website where I found it (Gameknot) does not have that information.
Total available points for this puzzle is 8. The answers will be published next week together with puzzle #49.
Puzzle #47 solution:
There were lots of good points in your responses. We also looked together at a couple of possible lines during yesterday lesson. Here I just want to point to the most important conclusions we came up with.
- Black has only 2 threats: pushing the d4-pawn and the attack on the g2-pawn
- Meantime White still has the "Rh7#" threat available after it will eliminate the f7-pawn
