We are returning back to normal puzzles and our good friend Jonah is again featured with his second game at the World Youth Chess Championship 2008 from Vietnam. His opponent was Martin Seminario from Peru, Pan American Champion for under 8 age group; game: SEMINARIO, Martin (PER) - LEE, Jonah (CAN) Jonah was under attack during the middlegame, but survived it; then he began to improve his position bit by bit until they reached the above position. See diagram and how the game continued.Questions:
a) How many White bad moves can you find? Explain why each move you found is bad, or why all are good (5 points)
b) How many Black bad moves can you find? Explain why each move you found is bad, or why all are good (5 points)
c) Is the final result a fair one, or one player could have won it?

Each correctly identified winning line (starting anywhere between moves 45-58) for either colour is worth 5 points. The answers will be published next week together with puzzle #45.

Puzzle #43 solution:
Darren's opinion:
The possible reason your computer couldn't get this is because computers have no sense of waiting moves or zugzwang. A clever problem indeed, as you think White must mate on h7 or f7 with his Queen, supported by the King or g5-pawn.
John's story:
If only White could make Black to move, the win would be a snap, since Black's King would be forced to move close to White's dangerous pieces, so then White could lunge at the Black KIng with tempo. The only problem is that if White tries to waste a move, all moves make his position bad! So this is the hard part. White has to play Kh3 because White's Queen is at a superior position and doesn't want to give it up, so then, he is forced to bring White's King away from the victory party. So this is the trick and my solution proves how horrible it is for Black to play Kh7, because even White's Queen and pawns are enough to beat Black's King, ONLY if it moves toward White's pieces.
I am very happy to see 10 solvers for this unusual puzzle; congratulations to all!
