a) Blacks strategy is to take the white pawns while white takes his pawns. When all the pawns are taken It is a draw. King+ knight cannot beat lone king.

b) White has to bring the king back in play in order to support their pawns and hang on to opposition to promote a pawn into a queen. White has to be careful to protect at least one pawn from being taken or being exchanged. This is because a lone knight vs. king cannot checkmate.
