We have a very interesting King and pawns endgame with equal material, but not an equal position. It is white to move and your tasks are:
a) Analyse the position and decide who stands better
b) Play the best line for white you can think of

Total available points for this puzzle is 20. The answers will be published next time together with puzzle #280.

Puzzle #278 solution:
Position by S Samarian, 1964. More than half have answered good and very good. Black manages to win the game because it moves first and can do it with tempo. The complete answers are:
a) White is threatening to win the game with 1.Qf8+ Kg6 (1... Kh5 2.g4+ followed by mate in 1) 2.Qg8+ Kf5 (2… Kh6 3.Rxh7#) 3.Qxh7# so Black must gain a tempo
b) Jalen has summarized it best:
"White:
- has a checkmate threat
- is down 2 pawns
- has no tempo
Black:
- can promote
- is up 2 pawns
- has tempo"
