The 15th Annual Susan Polgar Foundation Girls’ Invitational 2018 - BC Championship qualifier

 

The Annual SPF Girls’ Invitational, now in its 15th year, is the most prestigious All-Girls event in the United States. It is also the first All-Girls event approved and sanctioned by the USCF back in 2003. It is an invitational event, and will once again be held at Webster University (St. Louis, Missouri) between July 21-26, 2018. Each US state, as well as each country in the American Continent (South, Central, and North America), is allowed to nominate one representative. “Golden Knights” has proudly organized on March 24th the 3rd edition of the BC Championship, qualifier for the 15th annual SPFGI 2018. We are happy to announce our winner Shi Yuan (Sherry) Tian. She wins the tournament for the second time and will represent us in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.
Lyvia won 3rd place after solving more puzzles in the "Polgar test" than Coco.
IMPORTANT UPDATE 4-Jun-2018: Sherry and Jessica had to decline their participation. Our representative in St Louis is going to be Lyvia Shan (Golden Knights).

REQUIREMENTS for participants:

  • Under 19 years old on January 1st, 2018 (please provide date of birth)
  • Must reside in BC

TIME: March 24th, 2018
PLACE: Charles Rummel Centre, 3630 Lozells Ave, Burnaby, BC V5A 2Y8
8 minutes walking from Lake City Way Station (skytrain). It is located in Charles Rummel Park, Burnaby with playing fields, playground and a water park. Food and beverages available at the skytrain station. PLEASE COME ON SITE BY 9:00am

ROUNDS: 5 rounds
REFLECTION TIME: 30 minutes per player, G60 =  game in 60 minutes for each round. Clocks are provided.
Tournament will be rated with Chess Federation of Canada (CFC) as active rated. FIDE rules of rapidplay apply!

  • Round 1: 9:30 – 10:30
  • Round 2: 10:45 – 11:45 followed by lunch break
  • Round 3: 13:00 – 14:00
  • Round 4: 14:15 – 15:15
  • Round 5: 15:30 – 16:30
  • Tie break 1st place (if needed): 16:45 – 17:00

Tie break for 1st place only will consist of a written chess puzzles test (Polgar method) within a given time frame.

1st Place Clear of after tie breaks will represent BC, Canada @ SPFGI 2018
