Obtaining an advantage is a good idea to follow at any moment during a chess game. This is of course true during the opening when a sharp attacking line could surprise your opponent unprepared; by the time he tries to understand what is going on, the position could be tilted in your favour and you would enjoy a nice advantage for the duration of the game. In this game it is possible Black intended to surprise White with a sharp Queen maneuver; as a result Black is ahead by 2 pawns. Your tasks:
a) Analyse the position for both sides
b) After 1.Rb1 Nxd5 propose the best variation for both sides and determine who wins the game

Puzzle #206 solution:
Smislov – Kottnauer, Groningen 1946. Danny had the best answer this time around. Here it is:
a) Material is equal.
White's King is much safer because White castled and there are no enemy pieces attacking it. Black hasn't castled and there are three White pieces attacking it.
The center is open, both sides haven't developed their dark-squared Bishops. Black hasn't developed his h8-Rook. white has a Rook on the open a-file, a Knight that can potentially do something to Black's position and a Queen deep in Black's territory. Black has a battery on the semi-open b-file and White has a Rook on the semi-open d-file.
